) created its logistics department to deliver ordered goods to customers by courier. It also started developing parcel lockers to create their own parcel locker network and to sell them to other companies. The department was established as a separate company called SmartPOST.
In May 2007, SmartPOST (www.smartpost.ee
) started to develop hardware and software for automated parcel machine networks.
State-owned Estonian Development Fund together with private investors invested 2 million euros into Cleveron predecessor SmartPOST’s share capital for the automated parcel terminal network development.
SmartPOST started providing automated parcel locker services. 36 automated parcel terminals were installed in shopping centres all over Estonia and soon they became popular pickup points for end-customers.
After operating for two years, the network along with its brand name was sold to Itella Corporation (former Finnish Post). By the time the brand was sold:
- More than 5% of the population had used the service
- 25 % of Estonian distance selling parcel market was achieved
- More than 1000 business clients had registered to use the service
After the transaction, the company changed its name to CLEVERON.
Itella SmartPOST launched an automatic parcel locker network of 15 terminals with Cleveron’s technology in Finland. Automated parcel terminals are located in shopping centres and other public places with long operating hours in the Greater Helsinki area. 50 parcel terminals were installed by the end of 2011.
Cleveron introduced the concept of PackRobot
, a new generation of automated parcel terminal with the highest volume of stored parcels per square meter.
Running on Cleveron’s initial business model, Itella SmartPOST achieved 50% of the parcel delivery market (B2C) in Estonia. The first cross-border automated parcel terminal network between Estonia and Finland was established and it was based on Cleveron’s technology.
Cooperation between Cleveron and Itella expanded, by the end of the year there were over 300 automated parcel terminals in Finland.
Cleveron launched the new CleverBox
– automated parcel locker with unique drawer slots for small parcels and letters.
The first space-saving parcel terminal called PackRobot
was launched in Itella’s automated parcel terminal network in Estonia. Cleveron installed a test-network of six terminals in Brazil.
Cleveron opened the new assembly plant in Viljandi, Estonia, to meet the increasing demand for Cleveron’s products.
A new parcel delivery network of ten lockers was installed in Spain for Hapiick. Posten Norge (Norway Post) launched a pilot network of 30 automated parcel lockers in Norway.
Foxpost launched a pilot network of 51 parcel lockers in Hungary. Cleveron partnered with Bell and Howell to introduce automated parcel terminal delivery to North America. The largest Cleveron’s technology based network of 500 lockers was set up in Finland.
Cleveron launched the next generation parcel delivery solution PackRobot
, which dramatically advances the delivery and pick-up capabilities of parcel networks.
Cleveron’s service brand CollectNet
launched the open network of parcel pickup points pilot in Estonia. The network uses the PackRobot
parcel delivery solution. Speedy launched pilot network of more than 20 automated parcel lockers in Bulgaria. Cleveron’s PackRobot
was named the “Delivery Innovation of the Year” by Postal Technology.
Walmart launched a pilot to test 5 PackRobots as their buy online pick up in store solution
in the USA.
Smart Mile Solutions and Citydibs installed the first PackRobot
in Nagold, Germany. By the end of 2016, Cleveron had installed a total of 720 automated parcel terminals.
The founders of Cleveron and ON24, Arno Kütt and Peep Kuld, were named as the EY Estonian Entrepreneurs of the Year by EY Estonia, a member of Ernst & Young Global. The competition values innovation, entrepreneurship, social responsibility and leadership in business.

The first CleverFlex was installed in Inditex’es Zara store
in A Coruña, Spain.
Walmart announced the plan to expand their network of PackRobots (aka Pickup Towers)
across the US. By the end of 2018, Walmart has 700 PackRobots in their stores.
Bloomsburg University in the USA selected Cleveron’s CleverBox
as their automated parcel locker for the campus mailroom to make parcel handling and pickup more efficient and faster. The locker was installed by Cleveron’s partner Bell and Howell.
first PackRobot in the United Kingdom was installed for the pilot with UK
retailer ASDA. The PackRobot (aka the Parcel Tower)
enables both automated self-service pickup and return in ASDA’s Trafford Park
store in Manchester.
Cleveron installed two world’s largest click and collect parcel robots CleverFlexes in Zara’s revolutionary Stratford flagship store
. The London-based store has a separate department for online orders and ClevreFlex handles the parcel pickup. Together, the two robots can handle 2400 parcels.
